The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has outlined the formula for calculating aggregate scores for prospective students. According to the university, the calculation is straightforward, involving the addition of JAMB and Post-UTME scores, followed by division by two.
Calculation Formula
The formula is as follows: “UNICAL adds your JAMB score and your Post-UTME score together and then divides the sum by two.” For instance, if a student scores 250 in JAMB and 250 in the UNICAL Post-UTME exam, their aggregate score would be calculated as follows: “Aggregate score = (250 + 250) / 2 = 250.”
No Consideration of O-Level Results
It is essential to note that UNICAL does not factor in O-level results when determining aggregate scores. Therefore, success in gaining admission is largely contingent on JAMB and Post-UTME scores.
Departmental Cut-Off Marks
The university has also revealed its departmental cut-off marks for the previous year (2024). These marks vary across faculties, including Medical and Health Sciences, Law, Management and Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Science and Technology, and Education.
Faculty-Specific Cut-Off Marks
Some of the cut-off marks include Medicine and Surgery (292), Law (276), Economics (232.5), English and Literary Studies (240), Computer Science (212), and Education and English (208). Other faculties and departments have their specific cut-off marks, which are detailed in the list.
Cut-Off Marks for Various Departments
The cut-off marks for various departments are as follows: Dentistry (260.5), Nursing Science (266), Medical Laboratory Science (252), Radiography (256), Public Health (236), Human Physiology (216), and Human Anatomy (212).
Cut-Off Marks for Arts and Humanities
The cut-off marks for Arts and Humanities include Theatre Arts (228), History and International Studies (244), Linguistics and Communication Studies (232), and Linguistics (200.5).
Cut-Off Marks for Science and Technology
The cut-off marks for Science and Technology include Biochemistry (232), Microbiology (220), Genetics and Biotechnology (197), Electronics and Computer Technology (184), and Science Laboratory Technology (184).
Cut-Off Marks for Education
The cut-off marks for Education include Education and Biology (188), Education and Economics (142), Education and Mathematics (137), Education and Physics (142), and Education Management and Planning (204.5).
UNICAL’s formula for calculating aggregate scores and departmental cut-off marks provide clarity for prospective students seeking admission. By understanding these requirements, students can better prepare themselves for the admission process.
