Dangote Cement Plc has donated classroom furniture and learning materials to Ladi-Lak Nursery and Primary School in Apapa, Lagos, as part of its community investment programme aimed at improving learning conditions in one of its host communities.
The intervention, implemented through the company’s Clinker Terminal under its school support programme, included chairs, tables and other educational materials for pupils and teachers.
The company said the initiative formed part of its broader Social Investment Programme, which covers areas including education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic empowerment in communities where it operates.
Speaking during the presentation, Group Head of Social Performance, Dangote Cement, Wakeel Olayiwola, said the company’s community interventions were designed to support sustainable development and complement government efforts in critical sectors.
He said education remained an important area of the company’s community investment because improving the learning environment could create better opportunities for children in host communities.
The school’s Head Teacher, Mrs Ayoku Fatima Adenike, thanked the company for responding to the institution’s request for assistance, saying the donation had provided much-needed resources for pupils and teachers.
“We are sincerely grateful to Dangote Cement for this kind gesture. What once seemed like a dream has become a reality today. This support demonstrates the company’s commitment to education and the well-being of our children,” she said.
Adenike said the new furniture and learning materials would improve classroom comfort and contribute to a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
She also called for continued collaboration to enable the school address other areas requiring intervention.
The Head of Clinker Exports and Transport, Engineer Boluwarin Aladeniyi, described the donation as an investment in the pupils’ future and urged the beneficiaries to make responsible use of the facilities.
“The facilities being presented today are more than physical assets. They are a reminder that organisations and individuals believe in your abilities and are committed to helping you succeed,” Aladeniyi said.
He encouraged the pupils to remain disciplined, respect their teachers and parents and pursue excellence in their studies.
Aladeniyi subsequently handed over the donated furniture and educational materials to the school management, expressing confidence that they would be properly maintained and made available to both present and future pupils.
The company said the intervention was also intended to strengthen its relationship with communities hosting its operations while contributing to grassroots educational development.
For Ladi-Lak Nursery and Primary School, the donation provides additional classroom resources at a time when adequate furniture and learning materials remain important to creating comfortable and effective learning spaces for pupils.
