As part of ongoing supervision of the 2024/2025 Unified Promotion Examination across the three senatorial districts of Ogun State, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, has urged teachers to reaffirm their dedication to duty in order to sustain the high educational standards the state is known for.
During an inspection tour, Ifede spoke with journalists, describing teaching as a noble calling bestowed upon gifted individuals. He encouraged educators to embrace continuous professional development and innovation to enhance their practice. “Teaching is a calling; many people do not understand that. It is a gift given to certain individuals. Anyone who is a teacher has been gifted with the ability to teach. And when you are called to a profession, you must work hard at it, develop yourself and embrace innovation to improve continuously. Teachers should take the profession seriously. They were once students and now as teachers, I expect them to be more dedicated,” he declared.
Ifede also reassured educators that the state government remains committed to supporting them and will continue to prioritise teacher welfare as needs arise.
Headteachers from selected schools appreciated the visit and pledged to implement SUBEB’s directives. Mrs. Victoria Adebanjo of St. Jude Anglican Primary School, Ijesha‑Ijebu, and Mrs. Zainab Awoyemi of Wesley Nursery and Primary School, Ilisan Remo, both commended SUBEB for its supervision and emphasised their resolve to raise teaching and learning quality.
Other institutions visited during the exercise included Ansar‑ud‑Deen Nursery and Primary School, Irolu Remo, and FOMWAN Nursery and Primary School, Ikenne Remo, among others.
The inspection is part of Ogun SUBEB’s routine oversight of public primary schools during unified examinations, a practice reflected in similar monitoring efforts captured via the board’s social media. These exercises align with national policy mandates requiring SUBEB to coordinate, supervise teaching and learning in basic education institutions as outlined under the UBEC and UBE Act mandates.
Ogun SUBEB’s leadership continues to demonstrate oversight commitment through such targeted visits, reinforcing the importance of teacher professionalism and accountability during critical exam periods.
