The Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, has pledged the ministry’s partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to curb the growing challenge of drug abuse among secondary school students.
The Commissioner gave the assurance on Friday when he received the State Commander of NDLEA, Ashiru Abdullahi, and his team on a courtesy visit.
Speaking during the visit, Abdullahi said the agency was seeking collaboration with the ministry to intensify the fight against drug abuse in schools.
He stressed the importance of sensitization programmes in Unity Secondary School, Sani Dingyadi, and other schools across the state.
The Commander also presented a certificate of participation to the Commissioner and handed over posters to be distributed for awareness campaigns.
In response, Professor Ala commended the NDLEA’s sustained efforts and assured the delegation of the ministry’s readiness to work closely with the agency. He noted that under the leadership of Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto (FCNA), the state government is committed to protecting the future of young people from the scourge of drug abuse.
The Commissioner further announced plans to establish a committee that would revive and strengthen anti-drug clubs in all secondary schools across the state. He expressed confidence that with joint action, Sokoto society would be better safeguarded from the menace of drug abuse.
