The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) College of Nursing Sciences has announced the commencement of applications for its 2025/2026 academic session into the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) General Nursing programme. The sale of Post UTME forms officially began on 21st August 2025 and will close on 4th September 2025, giving candidates a two-week window to complete their application.
This development comes as good news to prospective nursing students across Nigeria who have been waiting for admission opportunities into one of the nation’s most reputable nursing colleges. The UMTH College of Nursing Sciences has long built a reputation for excellence in the training of professional nurses, blending academic rigour with practical exposure in the health sciences.
The programme is designed as a four-year full-time course structured into eight semesters, leading to the award of the Higher National Diploma (HND) in General Nursing. This certification has full recognition from both the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), ensuring that graduates meet national standards and are well-prepared for local and international practice.
Speaking on the structure, the College clarified that students will begin with foundational courses under the National Diploma phase before progressing into more advanced nursing and clinical practice modules in the Higher National Diploma phase. This stepwise approach ensures a steady academic progression and solid professional grounding for every admitted candidate.
Eligibility requirements are clear and specific. Candidates must have sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and scored a minimum of 150 points to qualify. In addition, applicants must present a strong academic background in the sciences, particularly in the core subjects required for nursing practice.
Specifically, candidates must have obtained five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in either WAEC or NECO examinations, at not more than two sittings. The College also recognises NABTEB and NBATS results, provided they meet equivalency standards. Applicants are expected to fall within the age bracket of 16 to 24 years as at the time of application.
The application process begins on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal. Interested candidates are required to request a change of institution to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital College of Nursing Sciences and also select the appropriate nursing programme as their course of study. Without this step, the application cannot be processed.
Furthermore, both UTME and O’Level results must be uploaded and verified on the JAMB portal to complete the application. The College stressed that failure to upload these results would render an applicant ineligible, even if other requirements are met. This precaution is to ensure transparency and uniformity in the admission process.
The management of UMTH College of Nursing Sciences has provided official contact details for further enquiries. Candidates may call 08061133410 or 08022662635 for guidance. Alternatively, questions and requests for clarification can be directed via email to cons@umth.gov.ng.
The College also reminded candidates of the strict adherence to the application deadline, noting that the portal will close by 4th September 2025 and late applications will not be considered under any circumstances. This aligns with the institution’s commitment to maintaining fairness and discipline in its admission process.
The release of the Post UTME form reaffirms UMTH College of Nursing Sciences’ vision to contribute to Nigeria’s healthcare workforce by training nurses with professional competence, compassion, and ethical standards. With the increasing demand for qualified healthcare professionals, this announcement presents a valuable opportunity for aspiring nurses to begin their academic journey.
In conclusion, prospective candidates are advised to carefully follow all instructions, prepare their documents early, and avoid last-minute rush. Nursing education at UMTH is not only a pathway to a career but also a call to service, and this admission window offers a fresh chance for determined young people to embrace that calling.
