The Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, yesterday, 3rd of September, 2025, hosted thousands of aspirants who gathered from different parts of the country to sit for the institution’s Post-UTME screening exercise. The Nigeria Education News team was on ground to monitor the process and interact with candidates on their experiences and expectations.
The examination, which commenced early in the morning and was conducted in batches to accommodate the large number of applicants, was described as generally smooth and orderly. Security officials, university staff, and invigilators ensured that candidates were properly guided into the examination halls, thereby preventing unnecessary confusion.
According to information gathered, the exam was strictly computer-based, consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions across four subject areas, depending on the candidate’s course of study. For Arts-related courses, candidates were tested in English Language, Literature, Christian Religious Studies, and General Studies. Science candidates, on the other hand, faced questions in Mathematics, English, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and General Studies, though the structure varied by program.

Many aspirants who spoke with The Nigeria Education News expressed relief that the exam was manageable, though some admitted that certain sections posed significant challenges. A candidate seeking admission into Mass Communication shared that the English and Literature questions were “straightforward but required critical thinking.” Another aspirant applying for Medicine noted that “the Chemistry and Physics sections demanded quick calculations, leaving little time for double-checking answers.”
The conduct of the exam was highly supervised, with officials ensuring compliance with guidelines to curb malpractice. Candidates were barred from bringing in phones, calculators, or unauthorized materials into the hall. This policy, according to the university, was designed to ensure fairness and transparency in the admission process.
Interestingly, the atmosphere outside the exam halls was filled with mixed emotions. While some candidates appeared confident and satisfied with their performance, others wore anxious looks, worried about the outcome. A parent who accompanied his daughter from Lagos told The Nigeria Education News that he was impressed with the level of organization, stressing that “OOU has shown maturity in handling such a large number of candidates without chaos.”
The Nigeria Education News observed that the university deployed ICT facilities to accommodate the computer-based testing system, and candidates confirmed that the systems were functional with minimal glitches. Only a few technical interruptions were recorded in some centers, but officials quickly attended to them without major disruptions.
When asked about their expectations, most candidates expressed optimism that their results would reflect their level of preparation. A prospective Law student stated, “I studied extensively for this exam, so I am hopeful. I just want to see my name on the admission list soon.” Another candidate aspiring for Nursing added that she is praying for a high score to meet the competitive departmental cut-off mark.
University officials disclosed that the results of the Post-UTME will be released on Monday, 8th of September, 2025, barely a week after the exercise. This, they explained, would give candidates ample time to prepare for the next phase of the admission process. The prompt release is also expected to ease anxiety among aspirants and their parents.
For many candidates, OOU remains a university of choice because of its reputation in diverse academic fields. Aspirants who spoke to The Nigeria Education News said they believe gaining admission into the institution will provide them with solid academic training and exposure. One parent noted, “We chose OOU because of its growing reputation in Medicine and Law. My son is determined to study here.”
The exercise also highlighted the resilience of Nigerian youths, many of whom had traveled long distances for the screening. Candidates came from neighboring states such as Lagos, Abeokuta, Ilorin, Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo, and even as far as the eastern parts of the country, underscoring the wide appeal of the institution.
Despite the positive reports, some candidates suggested areas for improvement. A few noted that clearer directions at the entry points could further ease movement, while others recommended more shaded waiting areas for parents and guardians. However, most acknowledged that the institution did well under the circumstances, considering the large turnout.
As the wait for results begins, tension is expected to rise among aspirants. Admission into OOU, like most Nigerian universities, is highly competitive, and candidates are aware that passing the Post-UTME is only one hurdle among others, including meeting departmental cut-off marks and satisfying other admission criteria.
The Nigeria Education News will continue to monitor the process as results are released and subsequent admission lists published. For now, thousands of hopeful students across the country await Monday, 8th of September, 2025, when OOU will officially release the results that could determine the next phase of their academic journey.
In conclusion, the 2025 OOU Post-UTME was largely successful, characterized by orderliness, technological readiness, and strict adherence to exam protocols. With the results expected in less than a week, candidates remain hopeful that their hard work and preparation will translate into success, ultimately securing them admission into one of Nigeria’s leading institutions of higher learning.
