The Federal Government has inaugurated the governing councils and principal officers of four newly established specialized universities, aimed at addressing critical national challenges in food security, health, climate change, renewable energy, and technological innovation.
Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the move reflects the government’s resolve to strengthen higher education as a driver of national productivity and global competitiveness.
“These institutions are not just centres of learning; they are engines of local economic growth, platforms for building human capacity, and hubs for community development,” Alausa stated.
The four universities include:
Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho, Oyo State
Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State
Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano
Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State
The minister emphasized that the specialized focus of the institutions will enable them to produce highly skilled graduates who can provide innovative solutions to Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic and developmental challenges.
He further assured that the government will continue to prioritize funding, infrastructure, and quality assurance to ensure the institutions deliver on their mandates.
