the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), has officially elevated a prominent medical practitioner and academic, Dr. Pius Ade-Ojo, to the esteemed rank of Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The announcement was made by the institution’s Appointment and Promotion Committee following a rigorous evaluation of his academic contributions, clinical expertise, and professional service to the health sector.
Professor Ade-Ojo has long been recognized as one of Ekiti State’s most outstanding medical professionals, combining his roles as a lecturer, researcher, consultant, and administrator. Until his elevation, he served as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at EKSU, while also working as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH). His promotion marks a significant milestone in a career dedicated to advancing maternal and child healthcare.
Born and raised in Nigeria, Ade-Ojo began his academic journey at the University of Ilorin, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S). He later pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at EKSU, blending medical science with administrative expertise—a combination that has distinguished him in his professional practice and leadership roles.
Following his undergraduate training, Ade-Ojo embarked on postgraduate studies at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He subsequently obtained fellowships from both the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African College of Surgeons. Professor Ade-Ojo’s leadership qualities became evident during his time at EKSUTH, where he served as the pioneer coordinator and acting head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Beyond departmental leadership, he contributed to university governance as a past representative of the Congregation in the EKSU Senate and a member of the College of Medicine’s Internally Generated Revenue Committee. These roles reflect his commitment to both academic administration and institutional development.

His leadership extended beyond the university setting into the medical community. Between 2008 and 2010, Ade-Ojo served as Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ekiti State Chapter. During his tenure, he achieved remarkable milestones, including the completion of Phase 1 of the NMA Secretariat’s Doctors’ Quarters, initiation of Phase 2, and the drafting and adoption of NMA Ekiti Bye-Laws. He also established the NMA Cooperative Society, creating financial support mechanisms for doctors across the state.
Professor Ade-Ojo is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Women and Children Development and Health Research Initiative (WCDHRI), a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving maternal and child health outcomes. Through WCDHRI, he has championed initiatives that promote reproductive health awareness, access to healthcare, and policy advocacy in line with global best practices.
His commitment to reproductive health further saw him serve as the Chairperson of Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria Volunteers, Ekiti State Chapter, where he worked to promote family planning, safe motherhood, and women’s empowerment. Additionally, he is a past president of the Ado Metropolitan Lions Club, District 404B2 Nigeria, where his humanitarian service reached beyond healthcare into broader community development.
As a scholar, Professor Ade-Ojo has made significant contributions to medical literature. With over 60 publications in reputable national and international journals, he has advanced scientific knowledge in obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive health. His research has influenced clinical practices and improved approaches to maternal and neonatal care in Nigeria and beyond.
In recognition of his selfless service to humanity, Professor Ade-Ojo was recently decorated as a Papal Knight in the Order of Saint Sylvester by Pope Francis. This prestigious honor reflects his contributions not only to medicine and academia but also to community development and faith-based service.
Colleagues, students, and the wider medical community have welcomed the news of his elevation with enthusiasm, describing him as a mentor, innovator, and role model.
