The management of Osun State University has described the institution’s newly appointed Chancellor, Mrs Victoria Adunola Samson, as “a round peg in a round hole,” praising her acceptance message as a reflection of visionary leadership, dedication and genuine commitment to educational advancement.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, stated this while reacting to the Chancellor’s appreciation letter following her appointment by the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke.
Professor Adebooye said the university community was delighted by Mrs Samson’s response to the congratulatory message earlier sent to her by the institution after her appointment as Chancellor.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the Chancellor’s acceptance message demonstrated deep passion for education, excellence and humanity, qualities he said align with the vision and aspirations of the university.
“The response of our highly revered Chancellor clearly reflects her deep passion for education, excellence and humanity. Her words are inspiring and reassuring. We are convinced beyond doubt that she is a round peg in a round hole,” Adebooye stated.
He further described Mrs Samson as a personality with exceptional experience, humility and commitment to human development, noting that her emergence as Chancellor would further strengthen the university’s growth and reputation.
“She has demonstrated uncommon grace, competence and commitment in both business and humanitarian service over the years. The entire university community is excited to work with a personality of her calibre as we continue to move the institution to greater heights,” he added.
Professor Adebooye explained that the Chancellor’s message had reinforced the confidence of the Governing Council, management, staff, students and alumni in the future of the university.
In her response letter to the university management, Mrs Samson expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded her by the institution and pledged to work closely with the Vice-Chancellor, Governing Council and other stakeholders to advance the university’s vision.
She stated that she was humbled by the confidence reposed in her and assured members of the university community of her readiness to serve with dedication, accessibility and purpose.
“I commit to being a Chancellor who is accessible, supportive, and purposeful; one who works in concert with the Vice-Chancellor, the Governing Council, and all University stakeholders to advance Osun State University’s standing as a centre of academic excellence, innovation, and societal transformation,” she said.
Mrs Samson also pledged to deploy her experience, network and resources towards supporting the institution’s aspiration of becoming a university of national distinction and global relevance.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the appointment of the new Chancellor further strengthened the growing profile of the institution, which he said had continued to record achievements in academic development, research advancement, infrastructural expansion and strategic partnerships.
Adebooye expressed optimism that the collaboration between the university management and the Chancellor would usher in a new phase of progress, innovation and excellence for the institution.
The university management also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining quality education and strengthening its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
