The Lagos State Government has onboarded youths from the five IBILE divisions into the first cohort of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme aimed at strengthening skills development and employment opportunities.
The beneficiaries were drawn from Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe divisions.
The onboarding ceremony took place at the Sam Shonibare Auditorium in Surulere and was organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment.
The programme is designed to provide practical training in vocational areas including mixology, cosmetology, graphic design, phone and computer repair, photography and video editing.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, said the initiative was part of the state government’s efforts to address unemployment and equip youths with relevant skills for the labour market.
Ajigbotafe, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Lolade Aina, noted that the programme aligns with the state’s THEMES Plus development agenda which prioritises economic growth and social inclusion.
She said the government ensured participation from all five IBILE divisions so that youths across different communities in the state could benefit from the opportunity.
According to her, participants will undergo intensive training under experienced instructors using modern facilities to prepare them for employment and entrepreneurship.
Some of the beneficiaries commended the Lagos State Government for the initiative, describing it as a valuable opportunity to acquire skills that could improve their livelihoods.
