The Kogi State Government has restated its commitment to transforming the state’s education sector to meet global standards, with a renewed focus on infrastructure, security, and academic excellence.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, gave the assurance during a media tour of Kogi State University (KSU), Kabba, where journalists inspected ongoing developmental projects.
Fanwo said Governor Usman Ododo’s administration has continued to prioritize education while ensuring a conducive environment for learning across the state’s tertiary institutions. He dismissed claims that the institution was unsafe, insisting that KSU Kabba remains peaceful and habitable for academic activities.
“The three state-owned universities remain a true reflection of unity in Nigeria,” Fanwo said. “Governor Ododo is transforming the education sector beyond what many thought possible. That is why we brought you here—to silence the naysayers. We are not just talking from Lokoja; we are showing you physical evidence of what is being done.”
He stressed that education is central to the governor’s vision for development, noting that beyond infrastructure and security, the government is also strengthening academic structures.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of KSU Kabba, Professor Kehinde Eniola, described the university as one of the fastest-growing institutions in the country. He commended past and present administrations for their roles in its growth, noting:
“Former Governor Yahaya Bello wrote his name in gold by laying a solid foundation for this university. Governor Ododo has built on that legacy with commendable passion and commitment. The progress we see today speaks for itself.”
During the tour, government officials inspected key facilities including the administrative and senate buildings, road networks within the campus, the Model Secondary School at Oke-Bukun Bunu, and a primary healthcare facility at Ayegunle Igun-Bunu.
Some students who witnessed the inspection expressed satisfaction with the developments, praising the government’s investment in their future.
“We can see the changes happening around us. The new roads, buildings, and security measures make us proud to be students here,” one of them said. “People outside may not know the level of development here, but we see it every day.”
