The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has released its approved academic calendar of events for the 2025/2026 academic session. The official announcement, signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, confirms that the schedule was endorsed by the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the Senate. The calendar provides a comprehensive breakdown of key academic and administrative activities for undergraduate students throughout the session.
According to the release, the first semester will formally commence on Monday, October 6, 2025, when both old and new students are expected to return to campus. Registration of courses, documentation, and payment of school fees will begin immediately. For returning students, lectures are set to start on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, while fresh students will continue with registration and commence lectures on Monday, October 13, 2025.
The schedule indicates that the Committee of Deans’ Meeting will hold on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, while the first Senate Meeting of the session is fixed for Wednesday, October 29, 2025. These early meetings are critical in ensuring smooth administration as the semester unfolds. Another Committee of Deans’ Meeting follows on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, to review academic progress.
Among other events, the university has fixed its Christmas Carol Celebration for Wednesday, December 17, 2025. This will be followed by the official Christmas Break and Vacation running from Monday, December 22, 2025, to Saturday, January 3, 2026. Students are to return to campus immediately after the break on Saturday, January 3, 2026, with lectures resuming fully on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The Matriculation Ceremony for fresh students is scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2026, while a University-Wide Quiz will be conducted on Monday, January 26, 2026. Senate will reconvene on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, and the institution’s 2024/2025 Convocation Ceremony has been fixed for Friday, February 6, 2026.
The first semester revision week begins on Monday, February 23, 2026, after which examinations will commence. The first semester examinations are scheduled to run from Monday, March 2 to Friday, March 27, 2026. Within this period, the School of General Studies (GS) Examinations will take place from Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27, 2026. The semester officially ends on Friday, March 27, 2026, followed by an Easter Break and Vacation from Monday, March 30 to Friday, April 24, 2026.
The second semester for the 2025/2026 session will commence on Monday, April 27, 2026, with lectures starting immediately. The first Senate meeting of the semester is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, 2026, and a Committee of Deans’ Meeting will follow on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The university has also fixed its University-Wide Quiz for Monday, June 1, 2026.
Academic governance will continue with Senate Meetings on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and Wednesday, July 29, 2026, alongside periodic Committee of Deans’ Meetings to evaluate academic progress. The revision week for the second semester is scheduled for Monday, July 20 to Friday, July 24, 2026.
The second semester examinations begin on Monday, August 3, 2026, starting with the School of General Studies Examinations from Monday, August 3 to Friday, August 7, 2026. Other examinations will continue from Monday, August 10, 2026, across the faculties. A Committee of Deans’ Meeting will hold on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, to address ongoing examinations and project work.
Final-year students will defend their projects between Monday, August 24 and Friday, August 28, 2026, coinciding with the last stretch of semester examinations. The semester and indeed the entire session will officially come to an end on Friday, August 28, 2026, after which students will embark on their long vacation until Friday, October 2, 2026.
The Registrar’s announcement also confirmed that the 2026/2027 academic session will begin on Tuesday, October 5, 2026. This provides a seamless academic transition and allows both staff and students to plan adequately for the new session.
