The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) has pledged full commitment to the successful hosting of the AMSA/WFME 2026 Medical Education Conference.
The assurance came during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the conference’s Local Organising Committee to the college on Wednesday, October 8, 2026.
Receiving the team, the Provost of LASUCOM, Professor Olufemi Idowu, reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to play a leading role in the global event. He said as one of Nigeria’s foremost centres for training medical professionals and advancing medical education, LASUCOM was well positioned to contribute meaningfully to the success of the conference.
Professor Idowu described the initiative as a noble project with transformative potential for medical education in Africa. He expressed pride in LASUCOM’s position as a co-host and assured the delegation, led by Professor E. O. Olaopa, of the college’s full support towards a hitch-free and impactful conference.
The AMSA/WFME 2026 Conference, organised by the Association of Medical Schools in Africa (AMSA) in partnership with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), will bring together global and regional leaders in medical education, health policy, and workforce development.
With the theme “Increasing Capacity and Retention of the Health Workforce in Africa,” the conference will address issues such as healthcare equity, financing for workforce development, strengthening health systems through governance, and the role of technology and innovation in shaping the future of medical education.
Described by organisers as Africa’s most anticipated medical education event, the conference is expected to attract participants from more than 50 countries when it takes place in the first quarter of 2026.
As preparations intensify, LASUCOM has pledged to mobilise its faculty, expertise, and institutional resources to ensure the conference achieves its objective of strengthening Africa’s healthcare workforce and raising the standard of medical education across the continent.
