The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, has charged Directors and Heads of Departments to uphold integrity, discipline, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
He made the call during a High-Level Management Meeting held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Mr. Enitan emphasized that leadership in the public service must be guided by example, compassion, and responsibility. “True leadership is reflected in conduct, compassion, and responsibility. What you do, they watch; what you don’t do, they notice,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary warned against breaches of administrative procedures, particularly unauthorized travel and assignments, stressing that such actions would attract serious consequences.
Commending departments that support staff during personal milestones and emergencies, Mr. Enitan described such gestures as “the heartbeat of a healthy and productive public service.”
He further encouraged the holding of regular departmental meetings to enhance communication, strengthen teamwork, and address emerging workplace challenges.
To ensure effective coordination and accountability, Mr. Enitan directed departments to develop clear work plans with defined timelines for implementation.
Reiterating that accountability starts from the top, he urged senior officials to model the Ministry’s core values of integrity, teamwork, accountability, and service excellence, noting that the behavior of leaders directly shapes the performance and ethics of their subordinates.
The meeting, attended by Directors and Heads of Units, forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote a more efficient and responsive education administration system.
