Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has donated a fully furnished office complex to the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Wamakko reaffirmed his focus on promoting technical and vocational education as a key driver of youth empowerment and national development.
The former Sokoto State governor said his decision to construct and donate the office building was motivated by his belief in the transformative power of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
“This handover ceremony is not the end of our relationship; it is the beginning of a partnership that will yield tremendous benefits for technical and vocational education in Nigeria,” he said. “The only sustainable way to empower people is to give them skills. You can give a man money or food, but if you give him a skill, you have given him a future.”
Wamakko explained that education had been central to his public service journey, recalling efforts made during his tenure as governor to expand access to quality learning.
“As a governor, education was at the heart of my administration’s agenda. We built and renovated schools, recruited teachers, and supported thousands of students with scholarships,” he said. “That commitment has continued in the Senate through my constituency projects and personal interventions, including the establishment of North-West University, Kalambaina.”
He emphasized that supporting NABTEB was a strategic investment in Nigeria’s technical education ecosystem.
“NABTEB sets the standards for business, technical, and vocational education. By supporting NABTEB, we are directly supporting Nigeria’s future workforce and productivity,” he stated.
The senator also pledged to mobilize other lawmakers, former governors, and business leaders to assist NABTEB in achieving its objectives.
“This donation is just the beginning. I will continue to stand by NABTEB to ensure it has the facilities and resources needed to fulfil its mandate,” he assured.
Receiving the building on behalf of the Board, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, Registrar and Chief Executive of NABTEB, commended Wamakko’s gesture, describing it as “a monumental act of patriotism and a testament to visionary leadership.”
“This day marks a significant milestone in NABTEB’s history,” Dr. Mohammed said. “Distinguished Senator Wamakko has shown that true leadership is not about position but about impact.”
