The Adamawa State Government has commenced a Computer Based Test (CBT) for the recruitment of 5,000 post primary school teachers across the state, marking a major step in its drive to strengthen the education sector and promote merit based employment.
The recruitment exercise, supervised by the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, is being conducted in phases across the three senatorial districts, starting with the Central Zone. The first phase took place at Ramat Government College, Yola, where hundreds of applicants sat for the test.
Commissioner for Education, Dr Garba Pella, who monitored the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the test, describing it as transparent, credible and reflective of the government’s commitment to due process.
“This is the first time in Adamawa’s history that job applicants are required to apply, sit for an examination, attend interviews and undergo screening before employment,” Pella said. “The era of employment letters being issued based on personal connections is over. This process is purely merit driven.”
He explained that the state government engaged independent consultants to manage the CBT process, ensuring fairness and eliminating nepotism.
A software developer with Satlink Consultant Services, Mr Nuhu Abadulahi, whose firm handled the CBT platform, disclosed that over 18,000 candidates registered for the exercise.
Co chairman of the Recruitment Committee and Acting Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Management Board, Mr Birsan Penuel, said the recruitment aligns with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s education reform agenda aimed at addressing the shortage of qualified teachers and improving learning outcomes in public schools.
He added that successful candidates from the CBT would proceed to the next stages of the recruitment process, which include oral interviews and document verification.
The exercise, he noted, would be concluded before the next academic session to ensure the timely deployment of teachers.
