The University of Uyo has emerged as a force to be reckoned with at the NUGA 2025 Scrabble Championships, held at the University of Jos. The Nigeria Education News is live on campus to cover the event, and we are bringing you the latest updates from the scrabble arena.
In the singles event (male), Abasido Bassey from the University of Uyo took home the gold medal, followed closely by Prestige Archibong from the same university, who settled for silver. Amadi Gift from Rivers State University took the bronze medal.
In the singles event (female), Funmilola Kelani from the University of Ibadan emerged victorious, taking home the gold medal. Ekajeh Talent from the University of Benin won the silver medal, while Gowon Precious from A.B.U Zaria took the bronze.
The University of Benin’s Oboro Alfred and Oboro Alexious duo took the gold medal in the doubles event (male), while Abasido Bassey and Prestige Archibong from the University of Uyo settled for silver. The bronze medal went to Kingsley Enyi and Benjamin Onuh from the University of Ibadan.
In the doubles event (female), Funmilola Kelani and Barakat Malik from the University of Ibadan took the gold medal, while Ekajeh Talent and Ekajeh Excel from the University of Benin won silver. Blessing Ola from the University of Jos and Hauwa Abdullahi took the bronze medal.
The University of Ibadan’s Funmilola Kelani was the star of the show, winning gold medals in both the singles and doubles events. Her impressive performance has catapulted her to the top of the medal table.
The University of Uyo, on the other hand, has also had a remarkable performance, winning a total of three medals, including two gold medals.
The University of Benin’s Ekajeh Talent also put up a commendable performance, winning a silver medal in the singles event and another silver medal in the doubles event.
The University of Jos, which is hosting the games, has also had a good showing, with Blessing Ola winning a bronze medal in the doubles event (female).
Chief Olobatoke Aka, the Coordinator (Scrabble) for NUGA 2025, expressed his satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the games.
The games have been intense, with top-notch Scrabble players from across the country competing for the top honors.
