The National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation team has paid an official visit to McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, for the accreditation of the History and International Studies programme. The exercise forms part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to uphold academic quality, institutional integrity, and national standards across Nigerian universities.
The visiting accreditation team was led by Prof. Chuka Stephen Enuka from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), accompanied by Prof. Lemuel Odeh from the University of Ilorin and Mrs. Adamolekun Lola, who represented the NUC. They were warmly received by the University’s management team, faculty members, and students of the Department of History and International Studies.
Welcoming the visitors, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan, expressed profound gratitude to the NUC for its consistent commitment to strengthening the quality of higher education in Nigeria. He noted that McPherson University continues to uphold global standards of academic excellence while ensuring that its programmes remain competitive and relevant in today’s dynamic world.
Prof. Igbasan reaffirmed the University’s readiness to collaborate with the NUC in all quality assurance efforts, emphasizing that the institution’s mission aligns with the Commission’s objective of nurturing graduates equipped for leadership, innovation, and service. “We are open to suggestions and recommendations that will help us grow, strengthen our programmes, and deliver quality education,” he stated.
During the session, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted some of the university’s recent achievements, including improvements in academic infrastructure, faculty development, and the introduction of modern teaching aids to enhance students’ learning experience. He also commended the Department of History and International Studies for maintaining high academic standards and contributing meaningfully to research and community development.
Speaking on behalf of the accreditation team, Prof. Enuka explained that the purpose of the visit was to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the department’s academic resources, facilities, and teaching standards. The review also focused on curriculum design, staff qualifications, student engagement, and the availability of library and laboratory resources relevant to the discipline.
He lauded the University for its warm reception, professionalism, and preparedness, noting that McPherson University has demonstrated strong institutional commitment to continuous improvement. “We are impressed by the level of organization, cooperation, and academic enthusiasm displayed by both staff and students,” Prof. Enuka remarked.
The accreditation process included an inspection of classrooms, departmental offices, libraries, and ICT facilities, as well as interactive sessions with lecturers and students. The team also reviewed academic documents and course materials to assess compliance with NUC standards.
Members of the McPherson University management expressed confidence that the accreditation exercise would further strengthen the department’s operations and contribute to sustaining the university’s reputation as a center of excellence in humanities education.
The visit concluded on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their mutual commitment to advancing the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria through continuous evaluation, feedback, and collaboration.
