Mountain Top University (MTU) on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, received Professor Jorge Chau, a globally recognised physicist from the Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics, University of Rostock, Germany, as part of efforts to deepen international academic collaboration.
Professor Chau was formally welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elijah Ayolabi, during a courtesy visit to the institution. The meeting featured robust intellectual engagement and reaffirmed MTU’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships in research and innovation.
In his remarks, Professor Ayolabi highlighted the University’s mission to build resilient human capital through excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. He noted that as a faith-based institution, MTU remains dedicated to producing globally competitive graduates who contribute significantly to national and international development.
Professor Chau expressed appreciation for the warm reception and commended MTU’s commitment to meaningful academic cooperation. He emphasized that genuine partnerships founded on shared goals, rather than personal interests are essential for promoting scientific advancement, driving innovation, and addressing emerging global challenges.
The German scholar’s visit precedes his participation in the Nigeria Space Symposium, hosted by MTU and scheduled for 21 November 2025. The symposium, themed “The Future of Space, AI, and Data in Nigeria’s Economy and Security,” is expected to convene leading experts to discuss the role of advanced technologies in Nigeria’s development.
Among those present at the meeting were Professor Babatunde Rabiu, Director of the Center for Atmospheric Research; Professor John Akinyomi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Mr. Olufemi Oyewole, Registrar; Mr. Shola Olagundoye, Bursar; Professor Edwin Ofduje, Dean of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences; Professor Babatunde Oni, Dean of CHMS; and Mr. Adegboyega, Head of Human Resources, alongside other senior officials.
The visit further cements Mountain Top University’s growing reputation as an emerging centre for international scholarly exchange and cutting-edge research.
