Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has released the official programme for its 13th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to hold from Tuesday, December 9 to Saturday, December 13, 2025. The announcement was issued by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, on behalf of the Council, Senate, and Congregation, marking the beginning of a week dedicated to academic celebration and institutional achievement.
The convocation is expected to attract graduands, families, staff, alumni, and distinguished guests as the university celebrates accomplishments across various fields of study. This year’s edition will highlight KWASU’s progress in innovation, scholarship, and community engagement through a series of academic, cultural, and social activities.
Activities will begin on Tuesday, December 9, with the Vice Chancellor’s Press Briefing at the Muhammadu Buhari Main Library at 11:00 a.m. The briefing will outline the university’s strides during the outgoing academic year, emphasising achievements in research, institutional growth, and educational reforms.
Following the press briefing, the university will unveil the Convocation Exhibition at the same venue. This exhibition will feature displays from academic departments, research units, and student innovators, showcasing projects, creative works, and community-driven initiatives that reflect KWASU’s commitment to sustainable development.
On Wednesday, December 10, the institution will host a Library Programme beginning at 11:00 a.m. This event will centre on literacy, digital scholarship, knowledge preservation, and the evolving role of the university library in enhancing academic success. It is expected to attract students, staff, librarians, and researchers.
Later that day, attention will shift to the University Stadium Complex for a friendly football match between Academic Staff and Non-Teaching Staff. Starting at 3:00 p.m., the match will promote unity, relaxation, and sportsmanship among staff members while adding a recreational touch to the convocation week.
Thursday, December 11, will feature the Convocation Lecture at the Mini Convocation Arena at 11:00 a.m. The lecture remains a core intellectual component of the ceremony, providing a platform for reflections on national development, educational innovation, and issues shaping contemporary society. It is traditionally delivered by an eminent scholar or public figure.
In the evening of the same day, the Department of Performing Arts & Film Studies will stage the Convocation Play. Renowned for its artistic excellence, the department will present a performance that blends creativity, cultural heritage, and academic artistry, offering guests an engaging and entertaining experience.
Friday, December 12, will host the central academic highlight of the week the Conferment of Degrees at the Mini Convocation Arena. Qualified students will receive First Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s Degrees, and Doctoral Degrees in the presence of families, faculty, government officials, and members of the university community.
During the degree conferment ceremony, awards will be presented to outstanding students who distinguished themselves through academic excellence, leadership, innovation, or community service. This segment underscores the university’s dedication to rewarding exceptional performance and nurturing future leaders.
The convocation will conclude on Saturday, December 13, with an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service. This final event offers the university community an opportunity to express gratitude for a successful academic year and the smooth hosting of the convocation ceremonies.
As the countdown to the event begins, KWASU anticipates a vibrant gathering of stakeholders from within and outside Kwara State. The 13th Convocation Ceremony stands not only as a celebration of graduates but also as a reaffirmation of the university’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and societal impact.
