The South East region of Nigeria is witnessing a significant boost in its education sector, with notable developments aimed at promoting academic excellence. Alex Onyia, the CEO of Educare and brain behind South East Maths Olympiad, announced on social media that Nathaniel Nwachuku, CEO of Terra Industries – Africa’s largest defense manufacturer, donated 10 million naira to support the South East Maths Olympiad.
This donation is part of a larger effort to promote mathematics education in the region, with a total of 15 million naira received towards the maths Olympiad. Nathaniel Nwachuku, a gifted child and ex-Physics Olympiad, expressed his commitment to supporting the South East Maths Olympiad, stating that “this is the first of many” donations.
Onyia revealed that Nwachuku will be a major supporter of the South East Football Championship in 2026, highlighting the donor’s interest in promoting sports development in the region. The South East Maths Olympiad is introducing prizes for second and third positions in all categories, thanks to the generous donation from Nwachuku.
The donation has been welcomed by the academic community in the South East, who see it as a significant boost to the region’s education sector. Onyia expressed optimism that the region will continue to improve, stating “Gradually, we will get it right.”
