Professor Tukur Adamu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Development) at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), Zamfara State.
The appointment, which makes him the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university, was approved by the Governing Council of FUGUS during its 32nd regular meeting held in Abuja from December 9 to 12, 2025.
According to the council, the decision followed a rigorous and transparent selection process aimed at ensuring leadership continuity and strengthening academic excellence at the institution.
The development was confirmed in an official press statement issued by Federal University Gusau, while Usmanu Danfodiyo University also congratulated Professor Adamu in a message posted on its official Facebook page.
Stakeholders within the academic community have welcomed the appointment, citing Professor Adamu’s extensive experience in teaching, research, and university administration.
Born in Gurbi, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Professor Adamu obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Zoology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He later earned a Doctorate degree in Zoology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in 1998.
He began his academic career at UDUS in 1989 as a Graduate Assistant and rose through the academic ranks to become a Professor of Parasitology in 2005.
Beyond his academic work, Professor Adamu has held several key administrative positions, including Head of Department, Director of the School of Matriculation Studies, and Rector of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara. His leadership roles have focused on improving academic standards, promoting research and innovation, and strengthening institutional governance.
Professor Adamu succeeds Professor M. G. Abubakar, whose tenure as Vice-Chancellor is expected to conclude in February 2026. He is expected to further advance the university’s mandate of delivering quality education and impactful research, particularly within Nigeria’s northern region.
