Baptist Secondary Grammar School (BASEGA), Ago-Are, has been officially recognized as one of the best-performing secondary schools in the Oke-Ogun region following its stellar performance in the 2024 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams.
The recognition was formally announced by the Forum For Oke-Ogun Progress (FFOP), in collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, during the 5th Education Summit held recently in Iseyin.
The ranking places BASEGA among the elite Top 10 secondary schools out of the hundreds across the ten local government areas that make up the Oke-Ogun region. This achievement is particularly significant as recent data from the Oyo State Ministry of Education indicates a surge in academic performance across rural local governments, with the Atisbo and Saki axes emerging as new hubs of academic excellence.
The 5th Education Summit, themed “Judicial System Challenges in Nigeria: Understanding the Issues and Pathways to Reform,” served as a platform for BASEGA students to demonstrate their intellectual prowess. Two students, Ayantoye Emmanuel and Oluwole Marvellous, represented the school in a high-level panel discussion.
The duo engaged with legal experts and academics on complex national issues, a performance that organizers described as a testament to the “sharp minds and rigorous discipline” being nurtured at the Ago-Are institution.
In a statement released by the school management, the achievement was described as a milestone for the Atisbo Local Government Area. “This prestigious recognition is a testament to the hard work, discipline, and academic excellence that BASEGA Ago-Are stands for. We are incredibly proud of our students and staff for this feat,” the statement noted.
The FFOP, led by Dr. Imran Saheed Adekunle, has been a major driver of educational reform in the region, frequently awarding scholarships to top performers. This latest ranking further solidifies the impact of the Forum’s synergy with the state government to raise the bar for public and private education in Oyo State.
