Bridge Charity Foundation, the social impact arm of WealthBridge Financial Services Holdings Limited, has unveiled the Bridge Foundation University Scholarship Programme, a ₦700 million education support initiative designed to widen access to quality tertiary education for Nigerian students.
The programme is targeted at academically outstanding undergraduates who demonstrate leadership potential, strong character, and genuine financial need, reflecting a growing private-sector intervention in addressing Nigeria’s education funding gaps.
Under the initiative, selected beneficiaries will enjoy full or partial tuition support, annual stipends, structured mentorship, and internship opportunities, a comprehensive package aimed at easing financial burdens while equipping students with real-world skills.
Beyond classroom learning, the inclusion of mentorship and internship placements positions the scholarship as a career-development pathway rather than a one-off financial grant, aligning education with employability and leadership readiness.
Speaking at the launch, the Group Chief Executive Officer of WealthBridge Financial Services Holdings Limited, Ahmed Lawal, described education as a strategic investment in national development rather than an act of charity.
“At WealthBridge, we believe that access to quality education is one of the most powerful tools for shaping the future of individuals, communities, and the nation at large,” Lawal said.
He explained that the Bridge Foundation University Scholarship Programme was conceived as a deliberate effort to nurture Nigeria’s next generation of leaders with the capacity to drive innovation, economic growth, and positive social transformation.
Lawal further noted that the programme’s design reflects a long-term vision, stressing that financial assistance alone is insufficient without guidance, exposure, and value-based leadership training.
According to the Foundation, the scholarship selection process will be merit-driven, transparent, and competitive, with clear criteria to ensure fairness and credibility in the award process.
An independent selection committee has been constituted to oversee the process, drawing members from academia, finance, governance, and the corporate sector to ensure professional oversight.
The committee includes Professor Adewale Olawoyin, capital markets expert Tairat Tijani, governance professional Ganiyat Olusesi, and senior academic Professor Ibrahim Sodangi, a lineup that underscores the programme’s emphasis on integrity and excellence.
Education analysts say initiatives such as the Bridge Foundation Scholarship come at a critical time when rising tuition costs, inflation, and limited public funding continue to threaten access to university education for many talented Nigerian youths.
With its ₦700m commitment and integrated support model, the Bridge Foundation University Scholarship Programme is expected to not only keep students in school but also help shape a pipeline of skilled, ethical, and socially responsible graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s future.
