Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the vision driving Westerfield College’s operations in the United Kingdom aligns with Lagos State’s youth empowerment agenda, particularly in quality education and global exposure.
The governor made this known when the Chief Executive Officer of Westerfield College, Michael Dosunmu, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to him in Lagos, as part of activities marking the school’s one-year anniversary as a wholly owned Nigerian institution operating in the UK.
Sanwo-Olu noted that initiatives such as Westerfield College’s UK presence support Lagos State’s goal of equipping young people with globally competitive skills and opportunities.
He commended the institution for creating platforms that enable Nigerian youths to compete on the global stage and position Lagos as a centre of innovation and excellence.
Westerfield College, a Sixth Form institution with campuses in Nigeria and the UK, became the first wholly owned African school to establish operations in the UK in 2025. The milestone was earlier celebrated at its official launch held at the British High Commissioner’s residence.
The visit formed part of the college’s ongoing engagement with education stakeholders as it expands opportunities for Nigerian students seeking international education pathways. The institution also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening educational linkages between Nigeria and the UK.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the educational potential of Nigerian youths, noting that their success across the world reflects the country’s strong human capital. He added that the establishment of Westerfield College in the UK opens new opportunities for projecting Nigeria and Lagos on the global education map.
As part of its current engagements, Westerfield College is hosting the School Leaders and Teachers Conference (SLTC) 2026 and participating in the International Education Fair, a platform designed to provide students and parents with guidance on international education opportunities.
A key highlight of the programme is the Westerfield College UK Summer Camp, scheduled to hold in three cohorts from July 20 to August 29 at the Worcester campus in the UK. The camp will offer academic tracks in STEM, pre-medicine, business and law, computing, arts and humanities, alongside sports, leadership training, educational tours and immersive English learning.
Speaking during the visit, Dosunmu said the institution is driven by a vision of education as a tool for global mobility and personal transformation. He explained that the summer camp is designed to build students’ confidence, leadership skills and global awareness, while offering families insight into the British education system.
The delegation described Westerfield College UK as a milestone achievement, blending British academic standards with a student-centred approach, and offering Cambridge A Levels, foundation programmes and pre-medicine courses to support strong university progression outcomes.
