The Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, has announced plans to hold its orientation programme for fresh students admitted for the 2025/2026 academic session, as confirmed by The Nigeria Education News.
According to an internal memo issued by the Directorate of Students’ Affairs and sighted by The Nigeria Education News, the orientation programme is scheduled to take place from Monday, 16th February to Wednesday, 18th February, 2026, at the Sports Pavilion, with activities commencing daily by 9:00 a.m.
The memo, dated 6th February 2026 and signed by the Ag. Dean of Students’ Affairs, stated that the programme is mandatory for all fresh students, including those in ND I and HND I categories. It further directed that no lectures or tests should be conducted for fresh students during the orientation period.
The Polytechnic management also instructed Deans and Heads of Departments to ensure full compliance with the directive by mobilising students under their supervision to attend the programme. The institution described the orientation as a critical academic exercise designed to familiarise new students with campus life, regulations, and academic expectations.
The Nigeria Education News gathered that the decision to suspend lectures temporarily for fresh students was welcomed by many, who see the orientation as an important transition phase into tertiary education. The management emphasised punctuality and full participation throughout the three-day programme.
During random interactions with students on campus, some newly admitted students expressed excitement about the orientation. A fresh ND I student from the School of Business and Management Studies said, “I’m looking forward to it because it will help us understand how things work here and what is expected of us as Polytechnic students.”
Another HND I student noted that the suspension of lectures during the period would help students settle in properly. “Orientation helps reduce confusion. It’s good that they won’t rush us into lectures immediately,” the student said.
Some returning students also shared their views, describing the orientation as necessary for academic stability. One student remarked, “When fresh students are properly oriented, it reduces mistakes later in the session, especially with rules and academic procedures.”
The memo was distributed to key principal officers of the institution, including the Deputy Rectors, Registrar, Bursar, Polytechnic Librarian, Public Relations Officer, and all Deans of Schools, indicating the institution’s commitment to ensuring wide compliance.
As of the time of filing this report, The Nigeria Education News confirmed that preparations were ongoing, with relevant units working towards a smooth and successful orientation programme for the incoming students.
