The United States Embassy in Abuja has warned of a possible terrorist threat targeting U.S. facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools in Nigeria.
In a security alert issued on March 9, the embassy advised American citizens to exercise heightened caution when visiting U.S. government facilities, including the U.S. Embassy Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General Lagos.
The advisory recommended that individuals vary their travel routes and times, remain vigilant about their surroundings, and avoid predictable routines that could increase security risks.
The embassy also urged citizens to maintain a low profile, review personal security arrangements, and keep their mobile phones charged in case of emergencies.
Additional safety measures highlighted in the alert include staying alert in public places, avoiding crowds and demonstrations, and identifying emergency exits when entering buildings.
While the warning remains in place, the consular sections of the U.S. Embassy Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General Lagos continue to operate.
The embassy advised citizens to monitor its official website for further updates and guidance on security conditions in Nigeria.
