The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated principal officers for newly established federal tertiary institutions as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s higher education system and promote innovation.
The inauguration was performed by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja.
The appointments include leadership for the Federal University of Science and Technology Epe and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic Abuja.
Alausa said the move reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality tertiary education and strengthening Nigeria’s capacity in research, innovation and technological development.
According to him, the institutions were strategically established to address emerging national and global challenges, including food security, climate change, renewable energy and technological advancement.
The minister also charged the leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education to strengthen governance across colleges of education and promote higher academic standards within the teacher education system.
He emphasised that improving teacher training remains critical to building a strong education system capable of supporting national development.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening institutional leadership, improving governance frameworks and advancing policies aimed at enhancing the quality and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
