The University of Lagos has reassured students and stakeholders that academic activities at the institution remain uninterrupted, despite concerns triggered by an earlier announcement from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNILAG chapter.
The university stated that the planned industrial action, which was scheduled to commence on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, was suspended on Tuesday, March 10, prior to its implementation.
“The suspension of the strike means that all academic activities, including the ongoing first semester examinations for the 2025/2026 academic session, are proceeding as scheduled,” the statement said.
The Head of Communication, Adejoke R Alaga-Ibraheem, emphasised that the management is engaging the union to resolve the issues raised, which relate to certain allowances owed to academic staff.
Discussions are reportedly ongoing between the university administration and ASUU UNILAG to harmonise positions on the Earned Academic Allowance, Consolidated Academic Teaching Allowance, and professorial allowances for excess workload.
The management assured that it is addressing the union’s concerns within the ambit of available resources while continuing constructive consultations to ensure a fair outcome for staff and students alike.
UNILAG also appealed to members of the university community and relevant stakeholders to remain calm and continue with their academic activities as the dialogue progresses.
The university concluded by reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a stable and productive academic environment while ensuring that students are not adversely affected by staff-related disputes.
