An Artificial Intelligence educator and digital strategist, Adeola Olapeju Mopelola Eka, has called for the urgent integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) education into Nigeria’s learning system to prepare students for the rapidly evolving global workforce.
Speaking in an interview with The Nigeria Education News, Eka said the growing influence of AI across industries means Nigeria must begin equipping young people with digital skills needed to remain competitive in the global knowledge economy.
She noted that artificial intelligence is already transforming sectors such as finance, healthcare, agriculture and media, stressing that the education sector must adapt quickly to keep pace with technological advancements.
“Artificial Intelligence is not something Nigeria should plan for in the distant future. It is already here, and the countries preparing their students today will shape tomorrow’s economy,” Eka said.

According to her, Nigeria’s large youth population could become a significant advantage if students are provided with the right digital and technological training.
Eka explained that AI-powered learning platforms have the potential to improve education by analysing students’ performance, identifying learning gaps and offering personalised learning support.
She added that such technologies could be particularly useful in Nigerian classrooms where teachers often manage large numbers of students.
The AI educator also emphasised the importance of AI literacy, noting that understanding how artificial intelligence systems operate will soon become as essential as basic computer literacy.
She urged education policymakers to introduce structured training in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics and machine learning across schools and universities in Nigeria.
Eka further advocated stronger collaboration between government institutions, universities and technology training platforms to accelerate the integration of digital education and prepare Nigerian students for future careers in the global technology ecosystem.
