The University of Ibadan College of Medicine held a formal induction ceremony on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, for its 2025 graduating class in Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programmes. The event marked a key milestone as the graduands officially entered the medical profession.
The Provost of the College of Medicine, Temidayo Ogundiran, who also serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the university, welcomed the new medical professionals. In his remarks, he encouraged them to pursue excellence and contribute positively to society. “It’s your turn to give back to society what you’ve learned so far,” he told the graduates.
Representing the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. N. O. Abul reiterated the importance of professional ethics. He urged the inductees to uphold integrity, honesty, and the ethical standards central to medical practice, emphasizing that medicine is ultimately a service to humanity.
The Chief Medical Director of University College Hospital, Ibadan, Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, congratulated the graduates and described the induction as the beginning of their professional journey. He added that they would serve as ambassadors of both the College of Medicine and the University of Ibadan wherever they practice.
Prof. Otegbayo also recognized the unwavering support of parents, guardians, lecturers, mentors, and trainers, acknowledging that their guidance and patience were instrumental to the success of the graduands.
In closing, he charged the new medical and dental professionals to be responsible custodians of life, remain committed to lifelong learning, respond to patients with care, and uphold the core values and traditions of both the University of Ibadan and University College Hospital.
The ceremony underscores the University of Ibadan’s commitment to producing highly skilled, ethical, and socially responsible medical practitioners ready to meet the health challenges of Nigeria and beyond.
