Students of the 100 Level from the Departments of Computer and Computing Sciences at the University of Offa (UNIOFFA) recently undertook an educational visit to the Kola Balogun Technology Center (O-KBTC), a facility well-known for its expertise in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and fabrication, drone manufacturing, and robotics under the One Innovation Hub (ONEIH).
The visit was organized to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, providing students with hands-on exposure to emerging technologies that are central to their academic curriculum.
Leading the students were the Acting Head of Department, Mrs. Adesuyi Folashade Euchariah, and Mr. Olalere Olaleye, a lecturer in the department. Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Euchariah emphasized that the excursion was designed to give students practical insights under the course UOO-CSC105: Trends of Computing Software in the Millennium Era.
She explained, “The visitation was designed to equip students with practical knowledge of technology as enshrined in their course. The visit to O-KBTC exposes students to industry-standard practices in software development, programming frameworks, emerging technologies, and robotics.”
The course, according to Mrs. Euchariah, covers areas such as software development methodologies, programming languages, software testing and debugging, ethical considerations, and fosters critical thinking and collaboration skills essential for modern computing.
The Nigeria Education News interacted with the students during the visit, who expressed excitement about the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world technologies. One student noted, “Seeing the drones and PCBs up close helped me understand how what we learn in class can be applied in actual technological projects.” Another highlighted that interacting with O-KBTC engineers gave them insight into career pathways and practical problem-solving in computing.
The educational visit, therefore, not only enhanced students’ comprehension of contemporary computing practices but also encouraged them to think innovatively and engage with emerging technology trends that are shaping the industry today.
The event reflects UNIOFFA’s commitment to providing students with both theoretical and practical knowledge, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional and technological challenges in Nigeria and beyond.
