Students of Idi Araba Junior and Senior School Complex in Lagos have been urged to stay away from cultism, drug abuse, bullying, and other harmful activities that could destroy their future.
The sensitisation programme was organised by Education District VI of the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in collaboration with the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) as part of efforts to promote safer schools and responsible student behaviour.
Speaking during the awareness campaign, the Tutor General and Permanent Secretary of Education District VI, Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuff, encouraged students to remain focused on their education and personal development rather than becoming influenced by negative peer pressure.
She advised the students to embrace discipline, hard work, and self confidence, stressing that every child has the potential to succeed regardless of background or circumstance.
“Say yes to your studies, yes to growth, yes to greatness,” she told the students while urging them to reject drug abuse, bullying, and other destructive habits capable of affecting their future.
POCACOV Coordinator, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, also warned students about the dangers associated with cultism and substance abuse, noting that many young people have lost opportunities and damaged their lives through involvement in criminal activities.
Drawing from experiences gathered through police campaigns and rehabilitation efforts, she explained that many victims of drug addiction often face long term emotional, social, and legal consequences.
The Divisional Police Officer of Itire Police Station, CSP John Adeniran, advised students to avoid bad company and remain law abiding, adding that cult groups often lure young people into violence and criminal behaviour.
He further urged students to speak up whenever they face bullying, intimidation, or pressure from peers, while encouraging them to maintain open communication with teachers and parents.
The programme forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government and security agencies to strengthen school safety, discourage social vices among young people, and build a healthier learning environment across public schools in the state.
