The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the Executive Chairman of the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Ibukun Fadipe, for questioning over issues linked to the management and utilisation of Universal Basic Education intervention funds in the state.
According to an official correspondence dated May 19, 2026, the anti-graft agency directed the SUBEB chairman to appear before investigators at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on May 26.
The invitation, signed by the EFCC Director of Investigation, Abdulkarim Chukkol, stated that the commission is examining the handling of counterpart grants and projects executed under the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) programme in Osun State from 2024 to date.
As part of the investigation, the commission requested several documents relating to the disbursement and utilisation of the grants, including evidence of counterpart funding submitted for UBEC matching grants, project implementation records, utilisation guidelines, and action plans.
The EFCC also demanded records of contracts awarded under the intervention scheme, including letters of award, contract agreements, payment details, and banking information connected to the transactions.
Other requested documents include payment vouchers, approvals, project status reports, and records previously submitted to UBEC before the release of funds.
The commission noted that the invitation was issued in line with provisions of the EFCC Establishment Act, 2004, which empowers the agency to investigate financial crimes and public fund management.
The development comes amid increasing scrutiny of education intervention funds and growing concerns over transparency and accountability in the administration of basic education projects across states.
