The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has inaugurated a 12-member Caretaker/Electoral Committee saddled with the responsibility of conducting elections for new student leaders representing over 40,000 students of the institution.
The inauguration ceremony was held on campus on Thursday, with the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, formally presenting the committee members to the university community.
Among those inaugurated was Biliaminu Al-Amin Adesina, a 500-Level student of Pure and Applied Chemistry, who was described by students as a tested and trusted campus leader with previous experience in student administration.
Before his latest appointment, Biliaminu had served as Chairman of the Chemistry Students’ Caretaker Committee, where he reportedly played key roles in coordinating student affairs within the department.
Other members of the committee include Adedokun Ibrahim Oyinlola, who will serve as Secretary, alongside Odediran Eniola Gloria, Gbadamosi Sheriffdeen Ajibola, Alabede Fathia Adetola, Adigun Esther Ololade, Bello Abibat Wuraola, Egbeyale Goodness Ayomide, Olagbende Emmanuel Mayowa, Ojo Humusalam Olatomiwa, Olajide Juliana Oluwatosin, and Adegboyega Itunnu Busayo.
Speaking during the inauguration, the university management expressed confidence in the ability of the committee members to conduct a transparent, credible, and peaceful electoral process that would produce competent student representatives.
The committee is expected to oversee activities leading to the emergence of a new Students’ Union leadership for the institution, one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
Earlier, the Dean of Students, Dr. John Adewusi Adepoju, described the appointed students as some of the most outstanding and responsible representatives selected from different faculties within the university.
According to him, the members were carefully chosen based on their leadership qualities, integrity, academic standing, and commitment to the progress of the institution.
The inauguration also attracted several top university officials and administrators, reflecting the importance attached to student representation and democratic participation within the university community.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategy and Development), Professor Tunde Ogunkunle; Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, Professor Olusope Alade; and the Deputy Dean of Students, Dr. Oluwafisayo Adebimpe.
Also present was the Deputy Dean of Students II, Dr. Michael Ajadi, alongside other university officials and student representatives.
The development is expected to pave the way for a new phase of student leadership within the institution, especially as students anticipate a transparent electoral process capable of strengthening student participation and campus governance.
Many students have also expressed optimism that the committee will ensure fairness, accountability, and inclusiveness in the forthcoming Students’ Union electoral process.
