Popular Nigerian music stars have joined the growing chorus of voices demanding the rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The victims were kidnapped during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School; and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, on May 15, 2026. Reports indicate that 39 pupils and seven teachers were taken hostage, while two teachers were reportedly killed during the incident.
Among those who have publicly reacted is award-winning singer Davido, who expressed sadness over the plight of the victims and their families. The Afrobeats star described the situation as heartbreaking and urged authorities to take urgent steps to end the insecurity threatening communities across the country.
Timaya also lent his voice to the calls for action, urging government authorities to intensify efforts to address the nation’s growing security challenges. The singer stressed the need for stronger collaboration and decisive measures to tackle the wave of kidnappings and violence affecting many parts of Nigeria.
Similarly, Victony appealed directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise the rescue of the abducted children and confront the worsening security situation. The singer called for swift intervention to ensure the safe return of the victims and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The reactions from the entertainers have further amplified public concern over the abduction, which has continued to attract condemnation from education stakeholders, labour unions, student groups, and civil society organisations.
As rescue efforts continue, calls have intensified for improved security around schools, particularly in rural communities, to safeguard learners and education workers from future attacks.
