Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has alleged that politicians are behind the recent wave of kidnappings in Oyo State, warning that he would expose those responsible if the attacks continue.
Igboho made the claim on Wednesday while hosting the newly elected leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by its President, Akinteye Babatunde, at his residence in Ibadan.
According to him, influential political actors are sponsoring criminal activities in parts of the state, although he did not mention any names.
“I know those behind these kidnappings. They are politicians, and if they do not stop, I will expose them,” he said.
The activist also stated that he possesses the capacity to confront armed groups operating in affected communities but claimed that he lacks the necessary backing from the Oyo State Government to do so.
Igboho further dismissed allegations that he requested financial support from the state government to assist in efforts to secure the release of abducted victims, describing such claims as false and aimed at damaging his reputation.
He maintained that his interest remains the protection of lives and property across Yorubaland and alleged that those behind the kidnappings are seeking to destabilise the country.
His comments come amid growing concern over the abduction of students, teachers and residents in parts of Oyo State, incidents that have triggered protests and renewed calls for stronger security measures.
As of press time, the Oyo State Government and security agencies had not responded to the allegations.
