The examination, conducted between April 20 and April 30, 2026, covered 12 subjects and featured candidates from the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as five foreign countries.
The results were approved at the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held on Thursday at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
The meeting was chaired by the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folake David, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
Speaking at the meeting, David commended NECO for the successful conduct of the examination and the timely processing and release of the results. She also expressed satisfaction with the integrity of the examination process.
The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country alongside members of NECO’s management.
The Award Committee also approved Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE re-sit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.
According to NECO, the re-sit examination is designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in either or both subjects, providing them with another opportunity to meet the requirements for admission into Senior Secondary School One (SS1).
The Council said the arrangement reflects its commitment to maintaining credible assessment standards while providing eligible candidates with a fair opportunity to progress academically.
NECO is yet to release the detailed statistical breakdown of candidates’ performance, including pass rates and subject-by-subject analysis.
