British Airways has reinforced its commitment to promoting digital inclusion by donating laptop computers to support the education of out-of-school children in Nigeria, a move aimed at improving access to technology and equipping vulnerable learners with the digital tools needed to continue their education and develop essential skills for the future.
The donation forms part of the airline’s broader corporate social responsibility efforts to bridge the digital divide and create learning opportunities for children who have limited access to digital devices. The initiative is expected to enhance digital literacy while helping beneficiaries participate more effectively in technology-driven learning and educational programmes.
Speaking during the presentation, representatives of British Airways emphasised that access to digital technology has become increasingly important in modern education, noting that many children remain disadvantaged because they lack the devices needed for learning, research and skills development. They explained that the intervention was designed to empower young people with resources that would improve their educational prospects and prepare them for an increasingly digital world.
The beneficiary organisation welcomed the donation, describing it as a significant contribution towards reducing educational inequality among underserved children. According to its representatives, the laptops will provide many beneficiaries with their first meaningful access to digital learning tools, enabling them to improve their literacy, computer knowledge and participation in educational programmes that were previously beyond their reach.
The initiative also highlights the growing role of private-sector organisations in complementing government efforts to address challenges facing basic education, particularly among children who are out of school. Beyond providing devices, the programme is expected to encourage digital inclusion, strengthen learning outcomes and expose beneficiaries to opportunities in science, technology and innovation.
The donation comes at a time when digital skills have become increasingly essential for academic success and future employment, making access to computers and internet-enabled learning resources more important than ever. By supporting underserved children with digital tools, the initiative seeks to ensure that economic circumstances do not become barriers to quality education and lifelong learning.
British Airways reaffirmed its commitment to supporting communities through initiatives that promote education, youth development and social inclusion, expressing optimism that the donated laptops would inspire more children to embrace learning and build brighter futures through technology.
