The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has warned prospective candidates against making mistakes in their personal details when creating profiles for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry registration.
The Board said errors involving candidates’ names, dates of birth and other identity information could create complications during registration and subsequent stages of the admission process.
JAMB issued the warning on Wednesday through a new edition of its “JAMB Explained” advisory series shared on its official X account.
The advisory, targeted at new candidates, urged prospective applicants to carefully verify their personal information linked to their National Identification Number before creating their JAMB profiles.
The Board explained that candidates’ identity details are obtained from records maintained by the National Identity Management Commission and are not generated by JAMB.
It therefore advised candidates to resolve any inaccuracies in their NIN records before proceeding with JAMB profile creation and registration.
JAMB said, “Before you create your JAMB profile to register for the UTME or Direct Entry, take a moment and carefully check to confirm that your name, date of birth, and any other details linked to the NIN are correct.”
According to the Board, mistakes in such details can affect candidates beyond the initial registration stage because the information forms part of their official records for the admission process.
It also cautioned candidates against assuming that obtaining an affidavit would, by itself, automatically result in the correction of their records with JAMB.
The Board urged prospective UTME and Direct Entry candidates to take the verification step seriously and ensure that their identity information is accurate before proceeding with profile creation.
JAMB said the advisory was part of its ongoing effort to help candidates avoid preventable errors and difficulties during the examination and admission process.
