The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Chike Princewill, has called on members of the University community to embrace digital technology and transformation to remain relevant in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Professor Princewill made the call on Monday during the CITE TECH STARS 2026 Graduation Ceremony, organised by the Centre for Information and Telecommunication Engineering (CITE), University of Port Harcourt, in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
The Vice-Chancellor commended the graduands for their commitment to acquiring digital knowledge and technological skills, describing such competencies as increasingly important for academic development, professional advancement and participation in the modern global economy.
He also appreciated the parents and the CITE team for their contributions towards supporting the students and equipping them with relevant technological competencies.
Professor Princewill emphasised that digital transformation had become a major feature of contemporary society, urging students, staff and other members of the University community to embrace technology and innovation as essential tools for keeping pace with developments across different sectors.
According to him, the ability to adapt to emerging technologies would play an increasingly important role in ensuring that individuals and institutions remain competitive and responsive to global developments.
The ceremony celebrated students who completed the programme, with awards and certificates presented to deserving participants in recognition of their achievements.
The event also featured exhibitions where students showcased the knowledge and skills acquired during their training, offering guests an opportunity to engage with some of the technological competencies developed by the graduands.
Fun games and other activities added to the atmosphere of the ceremony, bringing together graduands, parents, organisers and guests in a celebration of learning, innovation and digital skills development.
