The Federal Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Honourable Minister Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has responded swiftly to recent incidents at Federal Government College (FGC) Enugu, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment in federal schools nationwide.
The Ministry’s prompt action follows a disturbing report of a bullying incident at FGC Enugu, where an SS1 student (a day student) was gang-assaulted by a group of students on November 7, 2024. The incident came to light through a viral video on social media platforms, raising concerns about safety and discipline within the school.
In response, the Federal Ministry of Education established a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter. The committee’s findings led to the suspension of all 13 students involved for six weeks pending the completion of the investigation.
Furthermore, the Ministry directed the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) at FGC Enugu to work closely with security agencies in conducting a thorough investigation, including exploring possible external affiliations. Immediate security enhancements have been implemented at the College, including engaging law enforcement and reviewing existing safety protocols.
Counseling and rehabilitation support will also be provided to address various issues and facilitate the smooth reintegration of students into a positive school environment. The Honourable Minister emphasizes the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, including parents, school authorities, and security agencies, to address these challenges and create a secure atmosphere for students to thrive.
