The French ambassador to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier, has highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships and collaborations in the Nigerian educational sector. He emphasized that these efforts would not only enhance the educational ties between France and Nigeria but also create opportunities for shared growth, research development, and educational tourism.
The ambassador made these remarks during the commissioning of a plastic recycling and fabrication laboratory at the Nile University of Nigeria in Abuja. He noted the strategic significance of learning the French language, especially considering the proximity of French-speaking countries to Nigeria.
Fonbaustier praised Nigeria for showing interest in the French educational system and highlighted the high standard of quality education offered in France at a lower price compared to other countries like the UK, Canada, and the USA. He also mentioned the scholarship programs and grants available in French universities that can facilitate groundbreaking research.
The Vice Chancellor of Nile University, Prof. Dilli Dogo, also expressed enthusiasm about the benefits of collaboration with France in enriching the institution and improving education in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of partnerships with countries like France in enhancing research opportunities and fostering innovation in education.
Science and Higher Education Attaché Sébastien Bede highlighted the potential for synergy between French and Nigerian universities in research, grant opportunities, and staff mobility. He also mentioned that language barrier is not a significant issue, as France offers over 1,700 programs taught in English, providing opportunities for non-French speakers to study effectively.
Overall, the collaboration between France and Nigeria in the educational sector is seen as a positive step towards enriching the experiences of Nigerian students, improving employment prospects, and fostering further growth and development in both countries.
