The Kwara State Government has issued a warning to individuals and organizations intending to donate educational materials to public schools, urging them to refrain from embedding political messages or images in such donations.
In a recent statement, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Sa’adatu Moddibo-Kawu, condemned the practice of branding educational materials with donors’ pictures or political symbols, describing it as inappropriate and detrimental to children’s education.
“This practice, which includes emblazoning the picture of the donor on such books or school materials, should stop,” the statement read.
While expressing gratitude for the support provided to public schools, the commissioner emphasized the government’s policy against political branding on donated items. She noted that educational materials distributed by the state government since 2019 have been free of the governor’s image or other political symbols, reflecting a commitment to keeping politics out of education.
“Public officials and private individuals should kindly take note of this. Again, the government thanks everyone who gives any form of support for public education,” she added.
The government reiterated its appreciation for all contributions to the education sector but urged donors to respect its policy to ensure a healthy learning environment for school children.
