The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) recently conducted a training session for 137 Education Secretaries from Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities in the South-west region. The training, focused on the 2023/2024 Teacher Professional Development (TPD) programme, took place in Ibadan from November 18th to 22nd, 2024.
During the training, UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, emphasized the vital role of Education Secretaries in the implementation of basic education. He highlighted the importance of providing them with adequate training and support to ensure efficient management of primary schools within their jurisdictions.
Bobboyi assured the Education Secretaries of UBEC’s commitment to improving their knowledge and skills in educational management. He stressed that these officials play a crucial role in overseeing the effective functioning of primary schools and providing professional leadership to Head teachers and teachers.
In a goodwill message, the Executive Chairman of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, reiterated the importance of enhancing the capacities of Education Secretaries as education managers at the grassroots level. He emphasized the board’s support for ongoing training initiatives aimed at improving educational management skills.
The Director of Teacher Development at UBEC, Mr. Aleshin Mayowa, underscored the significance of the training in recognizing the essential role of Education Secretaries in implementing the UBE programme. The training session aimed to equip these officials with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively support the delivery of basic education services in their respective localities.
