The Federal Government has highlighted unqualified teachers and inadequate supervision as key challenges hindering basic education delivery in Nigeria. Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad, made this known during a meeting with local government education secretaries organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in Abuja.
The minister expressed concern over the growing “learning poverty,” where students perform below their academic capacity, and emphasized the need for improvements in teacher quality, school governance, and the learning environment.
Ahmad noted that local governments play a critical role in managing primary education and called for strengthened capacity at this level through targeted training programs. She assured stakeholders of the administration’s commitment to addressing educational challenges as part of its “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The training program for education secretaries was conducted across the six geopolitical zones, aiming to equip them with modern skills for effective school administration.
