Lead City University, Ibadan, has awarded postgraduate degrees to the Chief Press Secretary to the Oyo State Governor, Olanrewaju Suleiman, alongside 600 other graduates during its 17th Convocation Ceremony.
Olanrewaju earned a Doctorate in Mass Communication and Media Technology, joining 128 other PhD recipients. The university also conferred 289 master’s degrees, 139 postgraduate diplomas, 42 professional master’s degrees, and two Master of Philosophy degrees.
In a special recognition, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, received a Doctor of Science in Public Administration (Honoris Causa) for his contributions to preserving and uplifting Yoruba traditions. The honour was accepted on his behalf by his Aremo, Prince Sunmbo Olakulehin.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Adeyemi, described the convocation as a milestone symbolizing the dedication of students, their families, and the university’s faculty. He commended the achievements of the graduating students, emphasizing their contributions to research and innovation.
“Lead City University has consistently developed high-quality human capital that contributes significantly to national and global growth. This year’s convocation reflects the institution’s impact on education, innovation, and leadership,” Prof. Adeyemi said.
The Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Ogunmola, in his address, urged graduates to embrace change, overcome adversity, and view challenges as opportunities for growth. He highlighted the importance of leadership and adaptability in navigating future uncertainties.
“Leadership transcends authority or titles. It embodies the ability to inspire, empower, and motivate others towards a shared vision. Effective leaders listen, learn, and connect with those they lead,” Prof. Ogunmola stated.
The Olubadan’s representative praised Lead City University as a pacesetting institution delivering quality education, particularly to students of Ibadan origin. He commended the founder, Prof. Jide Owoeye, for his dedication to academic excellence.
