The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, to a full-fledged University of Agriculture and Agribusiness. This decision was made on February 26, 2025, following his assumption of office after his second-term inauguration.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniran, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the newly upgraded institution will serve as a model for the state’s agricultural and food security revolution initiatives. He said that the university would drive innovation, research, and skill development in agriculture, which are crucial to Ondo State’s economic growth and self-sufficiency.
The Governor further revealed that a committee would be set up to oversee the conversion process and ensure that it is executed smoothly. He assured current students and staff that the transition would not disrupt their academic or professional activities.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s vision, as outlined in the statement, is to create a world-class institution that will enhance education in agribusiness and play a vital role in Ondo State’s economic development. The upgrade is also expected to attract both local and international collaborations, which will benefit students and the wider community.
This development is part of Ondo State’s broader educational and agricultural initiatives, aimed at improving the state’s capabilities in these sectors.
