The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued two kidnapped students of the Federal University of Lafia and arrested a notorious suspect linked to the abduction.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Lafia, the command’s spokesperson, SP Nansel Ranham, disclosed that the rescue operation was launched in response to an emergency distress call about an attack on a student residence located behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia.
According to the statement, suspected kidnappers had forcefully taken two students, identified as Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi, hostage during the assault.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division in Lafia swiftly mobilized to track down the perpetrators.
Following intelligence gathering, police operatives launched a coordinated rescue mission on April 1, 2025, at approximately 11:30 AM in a forested area behind the 500 Housing Unit along Doma Road, Lafia.
During the operation, the security team engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle. Overpowered by police firepower, the assailants fled in different directions, abandoning the hostages, who were safely rescued without harm.
One suspect, identified as Ibrahim Musa from Abuni village in Awe Local Government Area, was apprehended at the scene. According to the police, Musa has made significant confessions and is currently aiding investigators in their efforts to track down other members of the criminal gang.
The Nasarawa State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urged the public to remain vigilant while promptly reporting any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
Further investigations into the case are ongoing as security forces intensify efforts to dismantle kidnapping syndicates operating within the state.
