Prospective undergraduates seeking admission into science, technology, engineering and health-related fields may soon have another federal university option in Lagos State, following regulatory approval for 34 degree programmes at the Federal University of Science and Technology (FUSTECH), Epe.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) granted approval for the programmes ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session, clearing a major hurdle for the newly established institution as it prepares to admit its pioneer undergraduate students.
The approval was conveyed in a letter dated October 23, 2026, following a resource verification exercise in which expert panels assessed the university’s available human and material resources. The programmes will initially run on a full-time basis at the university’s take-off campuses.
FUSTECH will admit up to 50 students into each approved programme, giving it a combined approved quota of 1,700 places across five faculties. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kazeem Adeola Oshikoya, welcomed the development and expressed the university’s readiness to begin its first undergraduate admission exercise.
The approved courses cover computing and informatics, engineering, allied health sciences, management sciences and technology, and science. The range reflects the institution’s intended focus on scientific knowledge, technological innovation and professional training.
Under Computing and Informatics, applicants can look forward to programmes in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Communication Technology and Software Engineering.
The Engineering faculty has approval for 10 programmes: Geomatics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
Seven programmes were approved for Allied Health Sciences. They are Prosthetics and Orthotics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Complementary and Alternative Medicines, Health Information Management, Nursing Science and Public Health.
The Faculty of Management Sciences and Technology will offer Business Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Transportation Management. The Faculty of Science will cover Biotechnology, Forensic Science, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Marine Science, Medicinal Chemistry, Medical Physics and Nuclear Science.
Established in November 2025, FUSTECH is preparing to build its academic operations while its permanent campus infrastructure develops. Its emergence adds another federal institution to the higher education landscape in Lagos, with programmes spanning fields that require specialised scientific, technical and professional skills.
The NUC’s approval applies strictly to full-time study. The university would need to submit a separate request for consideration before introducing part-time programmes.
Although the regulatory clearance creates a pathway for admissions, prospective students should not assume that applications are already open. FUSTECH’s official website states that the undergraduate admission exercise has not yet commenced and advises applicants to rely on official university announcements for the opening of the portal and screening requirements.
The next stage will be translating the approval into a functioning academic environment, with the staff, facilities and learning resources required to support the new programmes. For applicants, the immediate priority is to monitor official admission updates and prepare for the university’s announcement of its application process.
